Walking with Nev, Jane and all

28/05/26

A hot day for a walk along a canal and river. Becky, Sophia, Vander, Loki and Theo all joined Nev, Jane and me on this sociable walk.

Starting at Salts Mill, the Wednesday walk was well attended which is great. The whole walk was of course dominated by the cutest member of the troop which is how it should be. There was a lot of love on this walk. The metal sculptures were an added interest.

Four ladies setting off along the canal at Salts Mill.

There were lots of Canada Geese napping along the canal side.
Kissing a slug is an age thing.
The teenages, well they are teenages so they do what they do.

Supergirl Becky proves her fitness forging ahead with a happy weight on her back. Shipley is off to our right but the canal, sort of, isolates you from the outside world.

The dog walkers and ramblers are in abundance on this hot day. I said hello to most and I think every one was happy to reply. There were even a few chatted. The cyclists were a pain as they wizzed past on the narrow path but hey they are out excercising just like we are.

A man and his daughter were magnet fishing in the canal under this bridge. I had to stop to find out more. Today they had found a vape. It was in a bucket ready for the bin. He was telling me he had found a bycycle and a knife in recent days. He did take the knife to the police. Its a better hobby than I first thought.

We paused at the butty van at the bottom of Wood End. Bacon butties and a rest is cool.
To add to the moment the swing bridge was operated to let a narrow boat through.

The lady fairly flew through the very narrow gap, she was a great driver. Empty tummies filled we were off again. It was great to talk to everyone as we walked along. This was a very happy walk.

The Lily Pads had little blue damsel flies on them. How cool is that!

Everyone had turns talking to each other a little bit like a linear party.

Sophia really liked the bridge as did I because this was the point at which this walk touched the Escholt walk Theo and me had done a few weeks ago.

So many smiles.

On the river bank the surroundings changed markedly and we were closer to nature, almost immersed in it. But it was harder underfoot and I was concerned for Becky and her precious cargo but she nimbly covered the rough ground. Birds and river, vegetation around your legs, good company no wonder I felt in a really happy place.

We found a stretch of the route that was badly overgrown. With my hardened leg skin I just walked through the nettles etc and Theo skipped bravely along the canal side slabs but the ladies took a little longer to avoid the weeds and stings.

We left the riverbank and the path took a turn through a horrible area of street people litter and a dirty industrial area. Luckily it was only a short distance to the road and back to a nice path.

We waited on the bridge for everyone to catch up.
The cobwebby dog was not a favourite.
I have to say this section of river though urbanised looks very nice.

It was great fun as we spotted the sculptures on the sculpture trail.

Nedarly missed the frog.
Got to admit this one made me laugh. What an expression!

The dog? was a favourite and some of us were thrilled to pose with today's superstar.

The scultures definitely gave us all a boost as we searched and posed on or just explored them

All too soon the walk was over and we were forced to retreat to Nev's to eat the magnificent birthday cakes Becky had made for the boys.
This is all I could ask for the Wednesday walk to be. Every Wednesday we go for a walk and if you want to come along your welcome in fact your more than welcome. We can socialise, excercise and improve our minds and bodies all in a couple of hours.

6 miles is a good walk.
