Walking with Lacey and Lola

13th April 2026

It was a gorgeous day for a walk in the sun around this nature reserve with few trees in full leaf and plenty of birds to see.
This blog is a bit unusual because there is no commentary just the photos that Lacey took. We wandered around for a couple of hours and talked to plenty of birdwatchers.
Our target species were the Little Owl, Bittern and Spoonbill but we got so much more it was amazing.
We saw the Little Owl and a Kestrel on the mining equipment. We saw Cettes Warblers several times and normally we never see them just hear them. We saw Black Necked Grebe, a beautiful bird with the aid of a scope one of the bird watchers set up for us. We heard the Bittern Booming several times in different parts of the reserve. We saw Swallows, Reed Bunting, Willow Warblers, Sedge Warblers, Pochards, Tufted Ducks, Little Grebes, Great Crested Grebe, numerous gulls, Sand Martins, Sky Larks, Lapwing to name just a few.
