This was one of those walks, flat misty, muddy, really muddy and wet ground everywhere. But I really enjoyed it. The start was through a pleasant enough council house estate in Norton. I immediately encountered a pair with 2 friendly dogs one of which was intent on walking in front with me.

Heading down towards the River Went the fields were increasingly becoming muddier and slippier.

I passed a few trees full of noisy babbling Starlings.

The little bridge crossed the swollen river and on into another muddy field.

The path folloed the field margin with the river on the left swollen but not quite in flood. Eventually this field of curious sheep watched me leave the grass for the road.

Little Smeaton was a bit underwhelming but I am sure on better days the views will be great.

The view from the park sums up the weather, dank.

From Willow Bridge the milky river fills the river bed.

An interesting event occurred on this stretch of road (Greengate Road). A chap stopped his car and asked me how far I was walking, I replied 7 miles then we both realised at once on my part that he was offering a lift and on his part that I was a hiker. We parted with smiles but maybe I should look at my outfit if I am getting misidentified as a tramp. Seriously its good people like that still exists, willing to help a stranger.

The next bit down Westfield Lane looked like a private drive but I perservered and found my way past some posh looking gates back on a lane towards the road. The horses as ever stared as I passed.

I am glad I went this way becasue I did consider staying on the road, as I got to see a pair of Red Kites stirring up all the birds large and small in the area.

Looking back towards Westfield Farm it looked fantastic. The snowdrops, the first I have seen this year, were in the woods edge next to the lane.

Then it was road all the way to Campsall. Luckily the traffic was light and no lorries.

I've walked through Campsall several times now and I really do like the look of the place. This time I got to see the church of Mary Magdelene and a fine church it is dating back to the 12th Century.

A long walk along the road past the cemetery and I got back to Norton and my car.

Not a bad walk for a Monday morning. I particularly enjoyed the Red Kites and Campsall.
