On a miserable dirty January day I parked next to Town Fields a short distance from the hospital.
My first task was to deliver an envelope for Babs to the Cardio Respiratory Department which I duly accomplished without mishap. This is a brutal piece of architecture and is probably the most unfriendly looking and often feeling, hospital in the UK.
These houses are lower than the road but it was better to be on this path away from the traffic.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with its statue on the bell tower was interesting but looked like it had seen better days.
It is a unedifying walk to the round-about at Heather Wood but an easy quick passage.
The water tower was the main landmark on the road to Armthorpe.
I passed Wheatley golf club and a curious pony.
I crossed the railway into Armthorpe. The old disused footbridge would have been good to go over but it was fenced off.
The old pit village of Armthorpe has been expanded by a growth in private housing.
Though the wheel has stopped turning
And the sun has set low.

I enjoyed the inscription but the wheel looked puny. This is the Doncaster Markham Main not the Chesterfield one.
There were a few dog walkers around and a few ramblers. This old muck stack is huge and it took ages to cross it.
The paths over the muckstack were pretty good though there were a lot of large puddles to avoid.
The path through Sandal Beat Wood was muddy, very muddy. Soon I was out of the wood and heading through Cantley Park towards Cantley Bridge.
There were quite a few dogwalkers around.
A rather neglected road took me back over the railway.
Leaving Cantley I passed the Dome which also looked a little neglected.
I headed towards the city centre past the racecourse, hotel and the School for the Deaf. Further along this road is the Salutation a pub I worked at as a Door Man for a few months.

My last leg of this walk was to cross the massive town field with its football pitches and open space.
My red car was a welcome sight to finish the mainly urban walk.

Just short of 8 miles but mainly on hard surfaces and without any real hills made this quite a quick walk.
Not a very inspiring walk but the weather was dull and moist so perhaps this coloured my impression. I was very disappointed with the general feeling of neglect especially the hospital, church and dome.
