Askern RFM Blue Line

Askern

RFM Blue Line

23/09/25

This is my first walk for over a week as I have had a heavy cold and been unable to hike. It was good to get out there on a relatively hot and very bright day.

Setting off from the health centre next to the pond in the middle of Askern the view is dominated by the water tower.
The church of St Peters in Askern reminded me very much of the churches in Fuerterventura with its external bell tower.
The lane heading towards Langleys Plantation was very uninviting with its huge wooden fence on one side and a large electrical substation on the other, with warning signs saying: danger of death.

The area is a bit boring and in no way beautiful but I can only say its not too bad.

I followed the road to Campsall and then headed off through the woods.
Over Norton Ings.
Through Norton, a mix of private and council houses nice but not impressive.
Heading down Ryecroft Road the aptly named Windmill Cottages was a welcome surprise.

St Mary Magdelane Church at Campsall Hall with what looks like an old vicarage and some huge walls suggests a degree of ancientness.

The flat land of Little Moor Common was pleasant enough to cross.

Through the woods and across Askern Field the route was ok

Across the park with the water tower and down the hill back into Askern

The lake at Askern is always a welcome sight. This had been a good easy walk on a fine day after a period of illness.
