Hayton Misterton and Trent RFM Blue Line Cuckoo Way

Hayton Misterton and Trent

RFM Blue Line

Cuckoo Way

30/05/25

This was a pair of walks close together on the Cuckoo Way. I missed a section at Hayton so that was walk no1. Walk no2 was the final stage between Misterton and the Trent.

Hayton Walk no1.
This short section was not covered when I did some walks in the area before deciding to complete the Cuckoo Way. I loved the weeping willows at the start of this walk.

It is actually a very very green stretch. Because of the recent rain the banks vegetation has exploded.

Parts of the old church at Hayton date back to the C12th. Its location across the canal is picturesque.

At the 4th bridge I left the canal and set off back to the start through Hayton.
Some of the buildings are old and show Flemish influences. Some of the buildings are new and look very expensive.

Back to the start of the walk just over the bridge over the canal at the top of Hayton.

Misterton to the Trent Walk no2.
Misterton Church in the gloomy atmosphere was my starting point for this final walk on the east section of the Cuckoo Way

I was a bit surprised by the number of dog walkers, anglers and runners on this section. Misterton must be a bit bigger than it looks.

A pair of swans nesting happily behind the fence on this side of the canal. Perhaps they like people and dogs?

The clouds were beginning to worry me.

Only a couple of locks left before the Trent.

All the anglers were happy to say hello and this one showed me the bream he caught whilst I passed.

This last stretch was very straight. The flag iris's seem to be doing very well.

This is the marina after the end of the canal and next to the Trent.

The mighty Trent was running fast.

The connection from the Trent to the River Idle was a huge gate of some kind.

This section of the River Idle up to the old pumping station looked more like a major flood drain than a river.

Approaching the chimneys the rain finally started but it was relatively light.

I worried for a short time that there wasn't a bridge but then, thankfully, a foot bridge appeared.

This walk then left the river and negotiating some flat arable fields and crossing a raised railway line started to head straight for Misterton

The church was the focus of the damp walk up a slight incline to the village.

I finally arrived at the church at Misterton which I really like. It reminds me of the church in Hope.
