After an easy 2 hour journey from Barnsley we arrived at Weydale Avenue Scarborough. Luckily there were some parking spaces as the car park just below us is a steep £9 for the day. We set off towards Peasholm Park. The entrance via the pitch and put is blocked off so we had to walk down the hill to the bottom entrance, no sweat.

I was a bit mean in leading the kids away from the beach for the first part of the day but it was to be a 3 part walk. Part 1 through the town to the South Bay, Part 2 South Bay, then Lunch then Part 3 North Bay.

The squirrels didn't run away but just looked at us waiting to be fed.
Under the bridge we went where Lola and I chatted to a nice old lady about keeping fit and walking whilst we waited for Lacey to take her photos.
Through the park and into the graveyard. There were many Victorian inscriptions in this well maintained graveyard. It was actually very pleasant and we wandered through reading and discussing some of the stones.
We followed and old railway line across the top of Scarborough towards Falsgrave Road. There were lots of little birds and quite a few nesting boxes including some for bats. It was pleasant but to be honest could have been anywhere.
After walking through the streets for a while we dropped down a steep hill under the railway via an old tunnel with slippy cobblestones. We could see Oliver's Mount in the distance and Valley Road at the bottom.

We climbed a hill up to the left through the gardens and above the long pond.

Then we went back down the hill to the busy road and crossed.

Another steep climb up to Ramshill Road and I think the troops were starting to struggle on the hills but luckily this was pretty much the last one at least until we got back to Peasholm Park. We were all happy to see the Pirate ship bobbing along.

We followed the path along onto the footbridge where a couple of weeks ago I had been with Peter and Christine and their kids and grandkids. The weather was just as good as it was then as were the views.
Passing the Grand Hotel we admired Queen Victoria's statue in the park

We crossed the road and walked along on the sand-side not the amusement side of the front. It was nice to see the donkeys on the beach and people having fun.

We went to the same fish and chip shop as we did with Peter and Christine and I am happy to say they were still very good. The kids loves the sausages.

We made our way past the funfair onto Marine Drive. Despite keeping a good eye on the sea we did not see any seals or dolphins. We did see a beautiful husky dog and spent some time chatting with the owners. The other dog Albert was just a shouter but harmless enough. The dog was so soft the kids loved it. Lacey got some good photos see below.

Passing around the headland, with plenty of sea birds on the cliffs, we entered the North Bay. The beach looked very inviting and Lola and I were definitely on it. We passed the old lady again we had seen in the park and exchanged a brief chat. I think she was happy to see us.

One of the things I like about Scarborough is that the 2 bays are so different from each other. Only the castle can be seen from each beach.

We went on the beach and at first only Lola was taking off her shoes and socks but pretty soon we all followed except the sensible Lacey. We paddled along the waters edge which was alternately freezing and warm. The promise of an ice-cream took us off the beach at Peasholm Gap. There was plenty of room on the circular benches and we put our socks on over our sandy feet as we had no water to wash it off. No worries its nice to bring a bit of Scarborough home with you.The first ice-cream shop was cash only so we went to the second one on the left just before Peasholm Park. What a lucky break the ice-cream was gorgeous. I had rhubarb. We only had 1 scoop but it was generous and reasonably priced.
Back up the hill to the car and 2 hours later we were back in Barnsley. The journey was pretty good only one short traffic jam.
The walk was 51/2 miles long and ascended 400 feet. For the walkers this was easy but for the others a great achievement. To be honest it was a really fun day. So far this month I have had 3 days on the east coast and enjoyed every minute of every one. How lucky am I?

The following are Lacey's photos. I love the first photo of yours truly she definitely got me. Not sure who the idiot on the bridge is in the final photo. I find it really interesting to see Lacey's photos as she so much that I do not see. Thanks Lacey.
