Starting in the pleasant village of Sutton-cum-Lound I made my way northwards on the Mattersey Road.

The poppy display was, to say the least, odd but the park and church were typical of villages in South Yorkshire and the North Midlands. I think this is Nottinghamshire.

The very flat road out of village a theme for the day.

A wonderful long straight hedgerow alongside a large field on the way to Lound. There were all the usual suspect birds in the hedgerow notably goldfinches and wrens.

I know from a previous walk that Lound is a very pretty village but from the cross roads heading east the arrow straight road passes a very large noisy, dirty, industrial complex. After the works the road turns into a lane called  Chainbridge lane and continues straight for ever. Its very quick to cover this type of terrain but boring.
Following the River Idle to Tiln is very nice but steep overgrown banks mean that walking alongside it is pretty uneventful as you only catch glimpses of the river through the herbage.
I did stop to say hello to a chap with a spaniel called Kasper but he was in a rush to leave, I also passed several cyclists and 2 other walkers. No one wanted to chat. Oh well!

This part of the world is flat, very flat so the views are big skies and long perpesctives. I prefer hills.

Somewhere near Tiln  I saw a Goldcrest but I was too slow to get a photo. Still good to see.

Second week running for Long Tailed Tits one on a branch and one flying out of shot to the left, as ever silhouetted in the canopy.

At Sutton Lake I got a good shot of a hundred or so Canada Geese in the air and the same on the lake.

Over the fields and through Sutton back to the car. I would call this a pleasant rather than great walk. I do appreciate the difference between hill walking and flat walking, the church through the trees is a lovely view and the birds on the wing were impressive. Maybe I might become a fan of the flat.

Very fast over the ground only 2.15 hours for over 7 miles.
