Starting at Gateford I made my way through the suburbs down to the park just east of Shireoaks. On the way I passed a lady with a beautiful friendly German Shepherd called Jacks who was happy to be petted. I also passed an elderly lady with a smashing minature Yorkshire called Megs, feisty and very pretty, the dog not the lady.

This is meant to be a great place for views but the overcast drizzly weather washed out the distant views but I enjoyed the small hill and knowing that the views were there.

Down to the canal, under the ugly railway bridge and along the towpath. The canal was actually very pretty and very small. Its the Chesterfield canal. This part of the walk alongside the canal follows part of the Cuckoo Way which will feature in a few walks in this area.

Crossing a beautiful hump back bridge over the tiny lock was a treat. I met a bloke with a variety of bulldog that looked ancient and had trouble walking. The dog turned out to be only 4 years old and as the man said it was knackered. I sympathised with the obvious results of too much selective breeding. Shame.
More tiny locks on this minature canal.

More nice canal pictures. To be fair it was a very pleasant walk along this length of canal. A couple of anglers and a couple of dog walkers but other than that very quiet.
A beautiful weeping willow one of many on this stretch.
On to Worksop main shopping street. If this picture looks dull and boring I am afraid it reflects the street. The shopping centre and main street has many empty units and the ones that are there are pretty much discount or charity orientated. It looks like it used to be a busy thriving area but no more. A classic case of a town centre needing to re-invent itself.
The police station and council offices are in a really quite nice modern building.
Worksop is a tired old town but the people were friendly enough. I enjoyed the walk but the weather was not the best. The canal and railway station were the highlights.
