Walking in Finland
Palo-Ojan Kota

The last walk of the Lapland adventure was upon us. Mary and Kirstie were leaving in the evening and we were going south in the morning.
This was billed as a short walk but of course it wasn't.
We headed towards the ski resort through the woods east of Saariselkä. A very pleasant stroll along the wide path with the usual fat tyred electric bikes passing us.
Into the woods just before the resort we were overtaken at speed and too near by a lady on an elctric bike. We shouted etiqetti after her. Not satisfied Michael with his Gandalf pole stopped the ladies associates following her and gave them a lecture in bike over taking etiquette. They were suitable contrite but we still reminded them as they dissappeared into the distance with calls of etiqetti.
Knobs.
Past the car park at the foot of the resort.
The forest in the distance looked more like a lake than trees due to the low cloud.
We had passed over this path before but when we got to the turning for Palo-Ojan Kota we crossed a bridge over a very clear stream. Watching the water was calming and refreshing.
Across the valley looking out for Moose and bear but sadly, if present, they were hiding again.
The big tree in the middle is supposedly the oldest in Lapland and the tradition is to give it a hug, so I did. My companions stayed in the sausage hut eating and talking.
In the hut Michael and a group had a long conversation whilst Katia and a lady conversed in finnish. We did stay a long while but eventually left to follow the route up to Kaunispää.
I did not photograph this apart from one picture of a stream because we had crossed this path on our way back from Moitakaru.
The long drag to the top of Kaunispää passed relatively quickly and we were rewarded with the long views over the forest to the east. At the cafe on the top of the resort we had lunch. I had the salmon soup and salad. The salad, though good, was superfluous as the soup was just fantastic. Suitably full we ventured back out to the hill top where the weather had closed in and it was drizzly.
We walked down the roads to the church at the bottom of the hill.
A beautiful church with a wonderful window on the nature beside it. I'm not religious but that building was special.

A very pleasant 81/2 miles and we were back in plenty of time to enjoy the afternoon and early evening with Mary and Kirstie before they had to get their bus to the airport.
The final record of the blue line walks in Lapland not including the Inari trip.
