Out of the car park straight into the steep valley of the fast flowing Wyming Brook. What a treat of rock hopping, tree roots, fallen tree trunks, small wooden bridges and puddles. Very difficult ground to cover but fun.
In no time I was down at the path next to the reservoir. Crossing the dam I got some great shots of the reservoir with the woods behind which I have spent some time walking through lately. A rarity this year, in all the shots, is the lovely summer blue skies. It was quite warm, I was using my sun hat for its primary purpose not to keep the rain off.
Crossing the A57 into the aptly named Rivelin Rough an area of forest with fern undergrowth. It was quite a long upward stretch through the forest with plenty of trip hazzards vegetation and rocks. I passed a guy map reading but it was OK he was on track.
The OS map shows the next stretch to the road at Bingley Seat being open heathland but it was actually an extension of the woodland. There were some gaps in the trees showing the opposite hill that is the route of this walk. I took a photo of a brown butterfly no idea what species but pretty.
Then it was on to Woodbank Road but almost immediately the path plunged through an overgrown field onto the road down to the A57. In the distance could be seen the suburbs of Sheffield. Had a chat with a local with his golden labrador mainly regarding the very pleasant weather.
At the start of this hill I passed a woman walking with a toddler and a baby strapped to her front. Not suprisingly she wasn't going fast but she was happy to exchange greetings and I was impressed as this is definitely not parkland.
The hill up to Lodge Moor Golf Club was very steep and the areas with steps were very welcome. The path was wet and slippy and I was happy to leave the woods and cross the golf course. The views from the golf course were lovely but understandably I did not hang around.
Through Lodge Moor and onto the Redmires Conduit I passed quite a few people going about their business. On the conduit path I passed a couple of women with 2 dogs Lokia and Sylvi. Both big ginger curly things. Sylvi barked at me but Loki was friendly. The cows in the field adjacent were enjoying the warm weather. They must be fed up of the rain.
I walked around all three reservoirs. It was meant to be just the first 2 but the path was no longer passable. I was happy with the longer walk. I passed many people with and without dogs as this is a popular walking area and the weather was great, though the clouds were building. I had a chat with one guy who with his partner were looking after several dogs. He was expressing his love of the area. I agreed it was beautiful but admitted I preferred the higher landscape of the Derbyshire Hills.
Not sure what flower this one was but it did look lovely.
The last part of the walk followed the road around the reservoirs back to the carpark at Wyming.
I really enjoyed this walk. There were a lot of woods and reservoirs but no fields to cross so if you want to avoid farm animals its a really good walk for you.
