Rother Valley Walking with my sister

Walking with my sister
13/05/24
Rother Valley The walk is the blue line.
Parking in Killamarsh near the start of the walk was easy. A
short pleasant walk through the estate and across the main road brought us into
Rother Valley Country Park.
Everyone we passed was friendly and willing to chat. The
lovely warm sunny weather really helps. Mary, my sister, is a very good walker
especially considering less than 18 months ago she was hospitalised with a
seriously damaged back. We chatted amiably and wandered around the far side of
the park.
The early summer greenery and freshness is always a great
joy.
The bridge gave us a nice view of the rough water but the
water in general was very cloudy and uninviting.
The bushes and small trees will eventually be replaced with
bigger trees and a more woody aspect but at the moment they are typical of this
kind of post-industrial green space. I love the flowers that appear in sequence
over the months but apart from the common ones I have no idea of their names.
This is as far north as we go on this walk and we swung
around by the main road and headed south alongside the railway. After a short distance
we passed through a small wood and reached the top lake.
It looks really lovely. Walking past the lake we passed many
walkers, dog walkers and cyclists. I wouldn’t call it busy but it wasn’t quiet.
The larger lake was just as beautiful. The aquapark was
empty of people. Finding a bench we had a drink and a snack and chatted. I
would have preferred the aquapark to have been full of kids. It would have been
fun to watch but probably the bench would have been taken.
We returned to Killamarsh via the Trans Pennine Trail and
drove home.
Not much happened on this walk, no big incidents, no long
views or high hills no out of the ordinary wildlife but it was special to get to
spend a couple of hours with my sister walking around a lake in god's own
county.
